EBR Staff Writer Published 22 February 2012

A joint venture (JV) of British construction group Kier and BAM has won a GBP100m contract from France’s EDF Energy to carry out site preparation works for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset, UK.

Scope of work under the contract includes excavation, earthworks, terracing, the installation of construction site infrastructure and formation of roads and networks to allow main construction to commence.

Kier Group chief executive Paul Sheffield said that the Kier BAM team is looking forward to support EDF in its plans to deliver the first new nuclear power station in the UK for over two decades.

The nuclear power station will meet 6% of the UK's electricity needs and serve around five million homes.
